Couples Counseling / Imago Washington DC
Couples usually come into my Washington DC office because they're experiencing hurt, sadness, or frustration in their relationships. The good news is that it's normal for people experience these feelings in relationships. These feelings don't have to ruin relationships. In fact, frustrations can become the building blocks for building relationships that are strong, fulfilling, happy.
As part of my work, I teach couples practical tools for improving communication and connection.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Our intimate relationship can be the most important in our life, bringing us lots of joy and purpose; these relationships can also be incredibly challenging. With couples, I use a type of therapy called Imago Relationship Therapy. Imago helps explain why the things that frustrate us about your partner are also the things that initially attracted us to them. In beginning to look at your relationship in a new way, you can begin to heal the wounds of your relationships and move to a place of deeper commitment, understanding, and joy.
Imago is easy to understand and the skills I'll teach you can quickly help deepen your connection and begin to develop a lasting, mature love. As your therapist, I remain a neutral advocate for your relationship. I keep our sessions safe and help remove blame, shame, and criticism from your dialogue.
One of the core beliefs of Imago therapists is that we recognize that our own relationships require work, too. This work can at times be difficult, but it is also joyous work, perhaps even the most joyous work in life. I approach couples counseling knowing that I may have struggled with some of the same issues you're struggling with. I am committed to practicing what I teach in my relationship with my fiancé and in all of my relationships.
