Family Therapy

Our families can be the foundations of our lives, bringing us joy and a sense of meaning and purpose. It can also be difficult to be in relationship with other people. Even the best-intentioned people can at times find it hard to get along with each other and understand the viewpoints of other people in the family. Children can be uncooperative. Adult parents can be controlling. Maybe the whole family system just seems like it's not working.

One of the best things a family can do to reduce tension and increase healthy communication is to come in for family therapy. Within the framework of Imago therapy, I'll help each family member learn new communication and listening techniques, which can help everyone feel understood (and help everyone understand each other). We can examine unhealthy patterns that may have developed and work on establishing new ways of living with each other. New boundaries may need to be set, or unhealthy boundaries may need to be adjusted. We may also explore how each generation learned certain ways of thinking and acting and how they are being passed down from generation to generation.
