Handling depression at work

Let's face it, there is still significant stigma in the workplace around issues of mental health and illness. If you have to get an appendectomy, you'll probably feel comfortable telling your colleagues about it and they might even send you a card or flowers in the hospital. But what if you're struggling with symptoms of depression? Do you tell your boss or your office mates? You'll probably think twice before doing so. This article on health.com covers some of the challenges faced by people with symptoms of depress in the workplace. The bottom line is that it's something you'll want to be strategic about.

This is a very useful article for people suffering from depression. In my experience a lot of anxiety surrounds the issue of disclosure in the workplace. It is not a simple question, and as Mr. Gehlert indicates, it is important to be strategic.

Interesting article, The question could be expanded to include when do you tell your boss/coworkers about any illness or medical condition such as cancer. My experience is that the answer depends on your work situation.
