Counseling & Group Therapy in Washington DC

Nathan Gehlert, Ph.D., Licensed Professional Counselor

Welcome! As a psychotherapist, I'm passionate about providing a collaborative and encouraging environment for my clients to achieve their goals and make the changes they desire. Psychotherapy is a rewarding and sometimes challenging endeavor - you're probably putting a lot of thought into the idea of getting help. If the time is right for you and you think we could work well together, then please feel free to contact me.

Areas of Counseling Expertise

People in the Washington DC area come to me for counseling on: Anxiety, Depression, Quarterlife Crisis, Imago Relationship Therapy (couples therapy), Premarital Counseling, Career Counseling, Interpersonal Issues, Self-esteem, Men's Issues, and Spiritual/Religious Issues.

I also specialize in group therapy, which can be a powerful and effective alternative or compliment to individual treatment. It can also be more cost effective, since it's less expensive than individual therapy.

Working Together: As a psychotherapist, I embrace a client-centered approach to counseling, meaning that I work from a perspective that will integrate your needs, values,  and beliefs. We'll work together to set goals and develop a plan to help you reach them.

Focusing on Wellness: The primary model in medicine and psychology has been the "disease model," which identifies what's wrong and then works to fix it. The more holistic approach involves helping people be healthy so they don't become sick. I approach counseling from this "wellness model." It's important to identify your strengths and use them to be well. The ultimate goal is for you to be healthy enough so that you don't need counseling anymore. Throughout our work, we'll consider what you'll need to do to stay healthy when that day arrives.
